Thule Xsporter 421 rack & Yakima MegaWarrior basket installed on my short bed D22 Frontier.

I installed a Thule Xsporter 421 rack and Yakima MegaWarrior basket on my short bed D22 Frontier. The rack is in the down position in the picture shown, and can be extended well above the roof-line of the truck if needed.

In the picture where the view is from above, you can see how nicely the Xsporter tower bar passes through the fender.

Here is a shot of the cut outs I had to make in the fenders. I traced the profile of the actual telescoping part of the rack, then enlarged it 10% with a copier and used that as the cut template. Then simply cut them out with an air saw.

As you can see here, the edges are clean. After cutting the holes, I ground the edges smooth with a die grinder and then applied touch up paint. After it dried, I hit the edge with flat black paint.

And from underneath, I hit it with some rubberized undercoating.

As you can see here, you cannot really see the bars when they are fully extended down. I was crouched down to get this shot. I had made sure that at full suspension compression, I would still be nowhere near the bar.
